After over four months of living in Asia, we are taking our first trip to another country! We leave tonight for Singapore, with a plane change in Colombo, Sri Lanka (I am so excited to get my passport stamped some more). We should be getting into Singapore around 6 AM Singapore time, and we will be staying until Sunday afternoon. I am so excited to see another place, and really excited about the food, look out dim sum, here I come! I am also really looking forward to lazing by the pool with a good book and a couple of Singapore Slings (for those of you who don't know, this is a drink that was invented in the early 1900s at the Raffles hotel in Singapore. Raffles is the grandest hotel in all of Singapore and is named for the founder of Singapore, Sir Stamford Raffles; another example of British Imperialism at work). Here is the recipe so that you can give it a try!
Singapore Sling Recipe
30ml Gin
15 ml Cherry Brandy
120 ml Pineapple Juice
15 ml Lime Juice
7.5 ml Cointreau
7.5 ml Dom Benedictine
10 ml Grenadine
A Dash of Angostura Bitters
Garnish with a slice of Pineapple and Cherry
I am a bit worried about the actual travel, as this will be the first time that we are flying with any international carrier other than British Air (we are flying Sri Lanka Air), and I have heard nightmare stories about Indian airports. Also, our experience at the Bangalore airport on our arrival was a bit hairy, so I am bracing myself. I am mostly worried about Eric, he doesn't like crowds, so I am guessing that an Indian airport is just about the last place on Earth that he wants to be. I will have to just keep reminding him of the electronics and computer mall that he wants to visit in Singapore and maybe that will calm him. I have been advised that the restrooms at the Bangalore airport are atrocious, so hopefully we won't require any bathroom breaks! When we get back I will post all about our trip and any airport adventures that we have. Wish us luck!
